Hello Mr. Pellizzoni, Indeed you are correct my friend. The both programs are just different ways to get to some other place with. I don't even think it is fair to compare them but there is an awful lot of fuss out there about speed and ease. This…

About Me:
Supposedly I am a retired electrical construction worker and member of the IBEW from NY. I have never been so busy in my whole life, as I have been now that I am retired. As a writer, CAD user and curriculum advisor to the fifth largest school district in Las Vegas, Nevada, I promote every type of CAD product to be used by our future technologists. Having been intitiated into the CAD world by the late Mr. Joe Greco, who was my mentor, I have kept going with a mutual idea of ours to get CAD into our schools. To date I have been slightly successful but I will not give up on this idea of Mr. Greco's and myself. It is to honor a great guy in my opinion and to give our kids the tools that they will be using later on in life as our replacements.

No offense, but you remind me of my Grandfather, who was a high school physics teacher. I remember him programming computers with stacks of punch cards. Glad you are staying busy in retirement, and adding knowledge to the community is the best thing you could be doing. Thanks!

Hi Richard, have you discussed this with Marie in our EDU department? Are you looking for something on a PC or MAC?

Thanks for your time. You indeed have a very hectic schedule filled up with events.

freeCAD was developed by Mr. Aik-Siong Koh. You can find more info about him at http://www.ar-cad.com/about/askoh.html . Both of us would be happy if freeCAD can be used to help students understand mechanisms and motion simulation in a better way.

Please revert back to me if you still have problems opening freeCAD.

You are indeed doing a great deed by introducing CAD at schools.

Coming to your freeCAD installation problem, I hope you followed the instructions given on http://www.ar-cad.com/products/freecad.html (Download & Install in Windows)

The instructions are as follows
# Create a directory, say, C:\freecad9 for the downloads.
# Download freecad9.zip (15,317,367 bytes).
# Download patch90.zip (905 bytes).
# Unzip freecad9.zip, preserving subdirectories, into the same directory.
# Unzip patch9*.zip, preserving subdirectories, into the same directory. Let it overwrite other files.
# Double click on freecad9.exe to launch the application.

freeCAD has been developed using Smalltalk and it doesn't come up with a Windows installer. It has freecad9.exe file, double clicking on which starts up freeCAD. (This is the reason why it can be used on Mac OS or Linux)

I hope you can start freeCAD by following the above instructions, once you are done with it, you could follow a video tutorial at http://askoh.net/assemblies2/parallel_arm/parallel_arm.html

Am glad you consider me as a new "young" friend. Please approach me if you have any other queries, be it freeCAD or any other latest Web 2.0 thing :)

Thanks a lot for the test drive. You can find freeCAD at http://www.ar-cad.com

Yes, this time you sent the comment correctly as it landed up on my profile page. Kudos :)

Regarding the mention of your old age., one of the sayings I have heard qoutes "As long as I live, so long do I learn " , with things changing at such a great pace, I hope you dont have any other options, do you ? I must say, you are doing just great :)

Sir,
Its great to see such an experienced person amongst us. I am very much impressed with the work you are doing by introducing CAD at School levels.
I was wondering if you could have a look at freeCAD, which is a free 3D CAD with Motion Simulation capabilities. You can probably teach students how basic mechanisms work and so forth.
Please get in touch with Mr.Aik-Siong Koh (developer behind freeCAD) who is also a member in this Community or myself if you need any more information on freeCAD.

By the way, in Social Networking sites like this, when someone Comments / Scraps to you, most probably you would reply back to the person by clicking on "Reply to the sender" or by going to by that senders page and then commenting there in the provided text box, unlike the case you have done while Replying to a Comment by Franco below. (I hope you take this tip in a positive sense :) )
